Introducing Caddie Magazine Volume Nine

After nine months, Volume Nine has survived the various lock downs and travel restrictions to reveal our biggest ever edition – 162 pages of original golf & travel stories from around the world. To our subscribers – thank you for your patience and understanding. This one has been a long time in the oven but we are stoked to say it’s perfectly cooked.

Peterborough Golf Club, shot from above, creates our striking front cover design and forms part of our feature story on the Victorian Coastline. The strip of road shown road cutting across the bottom of the frame provides a hint to what this edition is all about – the road trip. The allure of the open road has been written about for centuries, and with air travel proving a rare luxury again for the time being, there has never been a better time to fully embrace the ground game.

For our Victorian Coastlines feature, across nearly 80 pages of full colour photography and written coverage, Editor-in-chief William Watt takes us the length of Australia’s southern mainland state. From the burnt but resilient town of Mallacoota (where we hope to eventually see your bush fire appeal donations make a real difference), to the quaint seaside town of Port Fairy and it’s classic links course, we covered over 800km of this stunning coastline for Volume Nine. The result is an ode to the rugged edge of this corner of the world and the golf courses that link it together. With thanks to J.Lindeberg, Victoria – A Golfing Great, Solbari and Seamus Golf who sponsored this story and helped make Volume Nine possible.

As far as golf road trips go, it’s hard to imagine anyone with a greater commitment to the format than Matt Cardis, aka @golfinyourstate. With 130,00 miles under his belt (and counting) since first hitting the road full time four years ago, Matt has built a unique lifestyle by harnessing his creativity, street smarts, and engaging social media presence to the golf world. We delve deep into his motivations and the joys and challenges of life on the road in this feature interview. Matt also lends his photography skills to Shaun Tolson’s comprehensive look at Pinehurst, the legendary golf resort that also represents one of America’s most enduring and historic road trips. With a new short course added in recently as well as extensive restoration work by Coore & Crenshaw and Gil Hanse on the world famous No.2 and No.4 courses, Pinehurst is a place that continues to evolve and live up to its moniker as ‘The Cradle” of American golf.

We’re also excited to bring you the striking photography of Stephen Denton, with his look at boutique putter manufacturer Mann Made, as well as Kiwi photographer Luke Leesburg, who captures his home course of Jacks Point in Queenstown with the love of a local. Fellow New Zealander Reece Witters is back with another fun read with The Checklist, and photography editor Dave Carswell curates a series of unexpected destinations for Road Trip Anomalies. We also have Matthew Mollica back for Volume Nine to tell us about the long forgotten club of those golf tragics who simply can’t live a day without the game in Sunday Stick, and Ben Lyons meets Tisha Alyn who is at the forefront of the social media evolution of golf. All in all, this is a rollicking read and quite possibly the best looking Caddie Magazine we’ve ever produced. We can’t wait to get it into your hands.

Volume Nine brings 162 pages of full-colour, spacious, luscious, crafted, golf. It lifts any room you place it in and is the ideal travelling companion. Give your eyes a rest from endless screen time and indulge in the beauty of the printed page; hear the snap of the cover; smell the ink as you thumb through the luscious paper pages – if you can’t tell, we’re pretty passionate about print; it’s the only way to read.

Caddie Magazine Volume Nine will sit proudly on your coffee table or bookshelf for years to come. We’ve assembled Caddie with this in mind – there’s no clutter, no newsy articles. Just the best stories from golf and travel that we could find, distilled onto the best paper we could find, and filled with the best photos, artwork and words we could create. Enjoy the read.
