Introducing Caddie Magazine Volume Seven

In Volume Seven, Caddie ventures far and wide in search of the latest  openings in destination golf. We’ve also widened our web of talented contributors to include artful takes on the game from all corners of the globe.

From the mountains of the Ozarks in Missouri, USA, we find an epic battle of  golf design philosophies unfolding at the appropriately named Big Cedar Lodge. One one side the valley, Chiefs Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have put their stake in the ground with Ozarks National: a wonderfully flowing golf course that embraces the land and floats above misty valleys. Not far away, there’s a cowboy at work on an entirely different philosophy: Tiger Woods and his latest creation at Payne’s Valley: utterly spectacular at every turn, with a swagger and boldness that’s guaranteed to raise eyebrows everywhere. Caddie Editor-in-chief William Watt travels to site and reports back with a barrage of drool-worthy images that will have you googling ‘Ozarks’ in no time.

Not too far away, on the hallowed grounds of Ben Hogan’s home club in Fort Worth, Texas, Mike Cocking discovers a club collection like no other. More than one of the great exponents of the game, Hogan was also an endless tinkerer and inventor of golf equipment. Our series of macro photographs, including the unique feathered groove pattern featured on our cover, reveal the creative mind and endless imagination that Hogan brought to his work. We also meet Patrick Barr, a.k.a. “Tiger Hood,” through the lens of legendary NYC street photographer Ray ‘Neutron’ Spears – his series shows that golf on the streets is perhaps the most direct way to bring the game into the lives of those who don’t normally get exposed to it. We interview Tom Doak, who continues to forge his own path and is riding one of the biggest waves of his stellar career, about the newly opened Gunnamatta Course at The National Golf Club. New contributor Ben Lyons plays nine with comedian James Davis, as well as contemplating breaking 80 and the dreaded 8-foot putt with some inspiring poetry that we combine with new artworks by Tony Knapton (@radrygolf).

Elsewhere we look at what our mates at Birds of Condor have been up to, collaborating with talented Aussie artist Lee McConnell  to create the new Playa Straya line of products – a true blue look into what makes Aussie golf tick. Reece Witters delivers again with a delightful letter to his younger self in Welcome to Golf, and there’s amazing scenery and contours to be found at Peninsula Kingswood – yet another quality offering on Melbourne’s famed Sandbelt region.

Volume Seven brings 134 pages of full-colour, spacious, luscious, crafted, golf. It lifts any room you place it in and is the ideal travelling companion. Give your eyes a rest from endless screen time and indulge in the beauty of the printed page; hear the snap of the cover; smell the ink as you thumb through the luscious paper pages – if you can’t tell, we’re pretty passionate about print; it’s the only way to read.

Caddie Magazine Volume Seven will sit proudly on your coffee table or bookshelf for years to come. We’ve assembled Caddie with this in mind – there’s no clutter, no ads, no newsy articles. Just the best stories from golf and travel that we could find, distilled onto the best paper we could find, and filled with the best photos, artwork and words we could create.
